LA Pierce men's basketball played its first game on Ken Stanley Court this season, Wednesday night, and delivered a complete team performance, taking down Los Angeles City College 82–70 to improve to 3–2 on the season.
The Brahmas' offensive engine was unstoppable. Andrew Shackelford put on one of the most efficient performances of the young year, dropping 31 points on 13-of-15 shooting, adding 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and a block, while shooting nearly perfect from the field. Pierce shot 63.3% in the first half, leaning on the toughness of Mandell Anthony (8 first-half points), Kameron Fricks, and Nick Cross, who provided an instant spark off the bench.
In the second half, DJ Maron-Gaines exploded off the bench with 11 points, including a huge three and a fast-break dunk. Mandell Anthony added 17 points overall. Pierce forced 27 turnovers, converting them into 26 points, which proved to be the difference maker. Fricks and Stanic combined for six steals, and the Brahmas racked up 23 total steals on the night. The Brahmas showcased their depth, outscoring LACC's reserves 42–16. Nine different players registered points.
