Two Titles for Lonninia Highlight Strong Weekend for Brahmas at WSC Championships
LA Pierce closed out the 2026 Western State Conference Championships with both the men's and women's teams earning seventh-place finishes at Los Angeles Valley College.
The Brahmas were led by a strong weekend from returning standout Jhan Lonninia, who turned in one of the top performances of the meet on the men's side. Lonninia captured a conference title in the 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 4:46.86 and later added another first-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in 16:58.23. He also placed second in another 500 free swim at 4:48.35 and recorded a 1:47.48 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Lonninia finished the meet with three gold medals and a team-high 60 points to lead the Pierce men, who scored 313 points overall.
Matteo Podesta added 33 points for the Brahmas, while Nicholas Bush finished with 26 and Andre Khachatryan contributed 20. Ryan Lozano rounded out the team's top scorers with 16 points.
On the women's side, LA Pierce totaled 191 points to place seventh overall. Madison Lata led the way for the Brahmas and earned the team's lone medal of the meet with a bronze finish. Lata scored 42 points and posted a third-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:17.98. She also recorded another third-place swim in the same event at 5:22.75 and added a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.59.
Baran Ebrahimi was Pierce's second-leading scorer on the women's side with 26 points, while Sofi Charnelle also added 26 points. Jimena Recinos contributed seven points, and Rebecca Marquez added 10.9 points.
With the conference complete, the Brahmas will now turn their attention to the postseason and the upcoming CCCAA State Championships.
